This course enrolls students from natural science, engineering and medicine to study together in a synergistic and multidisciplinary environment. Our course prepares the student for doctoral studies on cancer by integrating clinical aspects and basic science. It is taught by cancer cell biologists, oncologists, surgeons, geneticists, and pathologist. Many of the teachers already have an extensive track record from teaching in higher education.

The course starts with a two-week theoretical crash course in cancer biology. This is followed by a student-driven research project for the remaining part of the course. The project allows each student to actively participate in on-going research activities in authentic research environments. In many cases, the project is the first introduction to the scientific field in which the student goes on to do her or his PhD. The project work is complemented by weekly workshops on the tradecraft of science, such as scientific writing, poster production, oral presentation, scientific illustration and research ethics.

The course is given full-time during one semester per year. Is taught in English. Admission of applicants is based on formal evaluation of academic merits and an interview. If you are already enlisted for an MSc project in cancer through your regular program at Lund University – ask your supervisor to affiliate you to the course by contacting the course organizers. You may then acquire all its educational benefits while formally staying within your own academic program.
